Abstract
The penetration of renewable generation on distribution networks generally influences grid operation and flexibility leading to reliability, power quality and operational efficiency challenges. Distributed storage systems may have an important role to support higher renewable sources integration by responding to the urging operational and economic challenges as voltage and current problems and load following. Thus, through both technical and economic assessment, this paper presents an optimal sizing methodology of distributed storage deployment. Two study cases of voltage regulation and renewable energy time-shift are described and results are discussed. Furthermore, robustness to both technical and economic key parameters is assessed to acknowledge the predominant factors of distributed storage adoption.
