Supply chain management is recognized as an important source of competitive
advantage, but has mostly been studied in mature companies, and almost neglected for
start-ups. We contribute to address this gap in understanding the role of supply chain
strategy in start-ups, with an exploratory multiple case study of three high-tech
manufacturing new ventures. Our results suggest that high-tech start-ups exploit supply
chain management related competitive advantages, and their strategic choices evolve as
the new ventures develop from a start-up phase to a scale-up phase.
