dc.description.abstract The last years have testified a considerable growth of microgeneration (MG). Under the present world macroeconomic framework, several countries are trying to reduce their dependency of imported fuels. At the same time, the concern with environment and climate change is compelling the search for alternative clean energy sources. Microgeneration can make a significant contribution to work out these challenges. Most European countries are implementing  promotion policies, making the necessary legislative changes needed to remove the current barriers, creating a favorable regulatory environment. The adopted incentives policy is expected to stimulate the MG growth to noticeable levels, which means that MG contribution to the total power production must be taken into consideration in operation planning, dispatch routines and market settlement. This tendency is expected to be maintained in coming years, making MG a key contributor to the reduction of imported primary energy, diminution of en
